It started with a saying...
What is Happening Here?
Here it is, my first attempt at a blog, where I share my wondering and wandering with you. With a bit of story-telling and a bunch of pictures, you can get a sense of the places and the people I meet on my journey to figure out What is Happening Here?
Seriously, people, what is happening here?
Good question! I ask it A LOT. I say it when I am curious and confused, but mostly to call out the randomness, the weirdness, and the just plain ridiculousness I see in the world.

Turns out I needed to ask myself. There I was in my mid-50s, kids all grown up, with a job I didn't love and a considerable amount of time on my hands. It was time for a change, but what change? I wasn't sure, so I quit my job, packed up my apartment, hugged my kids, and set out to figure out the "what" by giving myself space and permission to explore my options and travel.

I had so many questions…
-
Is a gap year just for kids before college?
-
Is it too late to learn something new and change a career?
-
How can I financially support a gap year?
-
Can a woman of a certain age travel solo?
-
What the **$%#&** am I going to do with my life?

I decided to start this blog not only for family and friends to keep track of me but also as a way for me to explore the big questions and learn something new. The other bonus is that maybe I could be helpful to others who have big questions to explore for themselves or just need some help planning a trip. You decide what is helpful and useful. Use my 'wonderings and wanderings' through the world as inspiration to ask yourself big questions, plan a vacation, or just enjoy the sights from your desk while 'working.'

It won't take long for you to see that I LOVE beaches, history and food (wine and beer too)! Most of the pictures will be of those favorites.

I will try to offer destination reviews and share travel tips, often learned the hard way, so you can be one step ahead on your next adventure.
-
Wonder at the stories of people: present and past.

I hope you join me as I chronicle the wonderings and wanderings on my journey, hopefully leading us all to new places with new insights. But sometimes I may just need to write,
Seriously, people, what is happening here?!?
